This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) concentrations in human whole blood, serum, or plasma. The test may be used by medical and healthcare facilities to aid in the diagnosis of pregnancy, inflammatory conditions, ectopic pregnancies, and trophoblastic diseases.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by syncytiotrophoblast cells of the placenta and corpus luteum cells. It consists of two subunits: alpha and beta, which are linked by ionic and hydrophobic bonds. β-HCG plays a significant role in embryo implantation and its nutrition, and also has diagnostic value in cases of inflammation, ectopic pregnancies, and trophoblastic diseases. Its level rises rapidly during pregnancy, making it an indicator of pregnancy and its progression.

Test Application

Quantitative assays (the result given as a numerical value), also called beta hCG, give the exact amount of hCG in the blood. The test can be ordered to help diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, recognize and monitor a pregnancy at risk, or to monitor a woman’s condition after a spontaneous miscarriage. Quantitative hCG determination can also be ordered to diagnose trophoblastic disease, testicular or ovarian germ cell tumors. This test should be performed at regular intervals to monitor the effectiveness of treatment of the above conditions and for early detection of possible tumor recurrence.
