This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of myoglobin (Myo) concentration in human whole blood, serum, or plasma. The test is used by medical and healthcare facilities to aid in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction.

Myoglobin (Myo) is an oxygen-binding protein consisting of a peptide chain and a heme cofactor that stores oxygen in muscles. Myoglobin levels may rise as early as 2 hours after the onset of chest pain; in patients with severe congestive heart failure and after heart surgery, these levels may also increase due to myocardial damage. Myoglobin is a sensitive indicator in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction, which is why it is one of the markers of a heart attack.
