This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in human whole blood, serum, or plasma. The test may be used by medical and healthcare facilities to assist in the diagnosis of the ovulatory cycle, premature ovarian failure, and gonadal hypoplasia.

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone produced by gonadotroph cells in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. In women, LH regulates the menstrual cycle and egg production (ovulation). LH levels in a woman’s body vary depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle and surge sharply just before ovulation, around the midpoint of the cycle (day 14 in a 28-day cycle). This is known as the LH surge. Levels of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) rise and fall simultaneously during the menstrual cycle, working together to stimulate the growth and maturation of follicles, and subsequently to promote the biosynthesis of estrogens and androgens
