Strep A test (throat swab)

This is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the qualitative, preliminary detection of Group A Streptococcus antigens in human throat swab samples. The test can be performed at home and is suitable for use in both adults and children. Individuals under the age of 18 must be supervised or assisted by an adult while performing the test. Strep A bacteria can cause strep throat or scarlet fever.

Group A Streptococcus β-hemolytic, also known as Streptococcus pyogenes, is a bacterium that can cause various health problems. These include conditions such as throat infection (sore throat), skin infections such as impetigo and erysipelas, as well as more serious complications like acute glomerulonephritis, sepsis, and rheumatic heart disease. It is important to know that while sore throats are usually caused by viruses, they can sometimes result from a bacterial infection, such as that caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. In the case of bacterial infection, antibiotic treatment may be necessary.
