Test kit for an analyzer for the rapid determination of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels (serum/plasma) – pack of 25
This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) concentrations in human serum or plasma. The test may be used by medical and healthcare facilities to aid in the diagnosis of cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma and germ cell tumors, as well as in the evaluation of certain liver diseases.
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 70,000, which is primarily synthesized by the normal fetal liver and, to a lesser extent, by the yolk sac, the gastrointestinal mucosa, and the kidneys. AFP production begins in the 6th week of pregnancy and reaches its peak between the 12th and 14th weeks. Serum AFP levels return to normal one year after delivery. In adults, the presence of AFP in serum may indicate hepatocellular carcinoma or a germ cell tumor of the gonads. AFP can also be measured in pregnancy, active liver disease, secondary liver cancer, and certain gastrointestinal cancers.
