This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) concentrations in human whole blood, serum, or plasma. The test may be used by medical and healthcare facilities to aid in the diagnosis and assessment of thyroid function.

TSH is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroxine (T4) and subsequently triiodothyronine (T3), which stimulate the metabolism of nearly every tissue in the body. TSH is produced when the hypothalamus releases thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), which in turn stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete TSH. It is a glycoprotein hormone synthesized and secreted by thyrotropic cells in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, which regulates the endocrine function of the thyroid gland.
