This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations in human whole blood, serum, or plasma. The test may be used by medical and healthcare facilities to monitor patients with malignant tumors in order to assess disease progression or treatment efficacy. It must not be used as a basis for the early detection or diagnosis of malignant tumors, nor for cancer screening in the general population.

PSA is a protein synthesized and secreted into semen by prostate epithelial cells, constituting one of the main components of seminal plasma. PSA is a serine protease with a molecular weight of 34 kDa, found in the cytoplasm, ductal epithelium, and mucus of prostate epithelial cells. PSA is a specific marker for prostate cancer and one of the few organ-specific tumor markers. In addition to the detection and early diagnosis of prostate cancer, PSA can also be used to monitor patients following prostate cancer treatment. Serum PSA levels may also increase in cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and diseases of the kidneys and genitourinary system. PSA is also used in the differential and auxiliary diagnosis of prostate diseases.
