This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of cortisol levels in human serum. The cortisol test is primarily used for the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia. Cortisol is the most abundant steroid in the circulation and the primary glucocorticoid secreted by the adrenal cortex.

Cortisol is a hormone with anti-inflammatory effects and helps maintain blood pressure. Additionally, it plays a role in gluconeogenesis, calcium absorption, and the secretion of gastric acid and pepsin. Cortisol is an indicator of adrenal cortex function. Measuring cortisol in the blood is very helpful in differentiating between Addison’s disease and Cushing’s syndrome, as well as in diagnosing pituitary disorders, adrenal hyperplasia, and tumors. The cortisol level test is therefore an essential diagnostic tool for assessing the body’s functioning and its response to stress.
