This kit is intended for the quantitative in vitro measurement of prolactin (PRL) levels in human serum, plasma, or whole blood. The test is used by medical and healthcare facilities to aid in the diagnosis of hormonal disorders and fertility issues.

Prolactin is a hormone primarily responsible for stimulating and maintaining lactation in women. Prolactin levels may rise as a result of pregnancy, sexual intercourse, nipple stimulation, sleep, physical exercise, stress, and the effects of estrogen, progesterone, and certain psychotropic medications. Medications such as bromocriptine, vitamin B6, and levodopa can lower prolactin levels. High prolactin levels inhibit ovulation, which is a major cause of infertility and reproductive disorders in women.
